A Letter from the Family

Three generations at the same tables, since 1978.

My grandfather opened Wedgewood in the autumn of 1978 with a single conviction: that a neighborhood supper club ought to know its guests by name, dry-age its own beef, and pour a proper Old Fashioned — not as a novelty, but as the house pour. Forty-seven years later, that conviction still drives the kitchen and the bar.

I grew up in the dining room. I learned to shuck oysters at the pass, to light a tableside Caesar with one match, to time a Bananas Foster so it flames exactly as the cart arrives. My parents still work the floor most evenings. We are not a chain, and we have never wanted to be — we are the same family restaurant, run a little more carefully each year.

If you are visiting us for the first time, welcome. If you are one of the regulars whose name my mother remembers before you reach the host stand, thank you. Either way, the third generation is here, the jazz trio is warming up, and your table is ready.

— Eleanor Wedgewood, third-generation owner

The House Promises

The four things our guests return for.

Each one is a discrete promise we have kept, week after week, for forty-seven years.

28-day dry-aged steaks, in our own aging room.

Hand-cut USDA Prime ribeyes, NY strips, and porterhouses dry-aged a minimum of 28 days on-site — the only dedicated dry-aging program in the region.

02

The 1978 Old Fashioned.

Bulleit bourbon, house-made brandied cherry, a single sugar cube. Our original house recipe — named Best Old Fashioned in the State, 2021.

Tableside, the way it should be.

Caesars tossed to order, Bananas Foster flamed from the silver cart, twice-baked potatoes finished beside the table. Service you remember.

04

312 nights of live jazz, every year.

A trio or quartet performs Wednesday through Sunday — 312 nights a year, uninterrupted since 1978. No cover, no minimum. Just the room, the music, and your evening.

From the Regulars
We've been coming every Friday for nineteen years. The Caesar is still tossed at the table, the band still knows when to play quiet during dinner, and Eleanor's mother still remembers that my husband takes his Old Fashioned with a cherry, not a twist.
